NJSAR 2002 Searches

December 7, 2002 NJSAR contacted by the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit about an elderly woman missing in Mahway. The woman was found before NJSAR dispatched resources.

December 5-6, 2002 NJSAR assisted the Holmdel, NJ Police Department in the search for Gerry Caridad, a 10-year old boy missing since The evening of December 4th. Gerry was found on the morning of the 6th. (Asbury Park Press story)

December 5, 2002 NJSAR received a request for a cadaver dog to assist the Atlantic County Prosecutor's office. The request for relayed to Ramapo Rescue Dogs. Ramapo Rescue Dogs was cancelled enroute.

October 7, 2002 NJSAR responded to a mutual aid request from the Thornhurst Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company for a search in Thornhurst, PA for a 50-year-old male missing since Saturday. He was found while NJSAR team members where enroute to the search.

October 6, 2002 NJSAR responded to a mutual aid request from the Morris County Park Police for a search in Rockaway, NJ for Joseph Filippone, a 51-year-old hunter missing since Saturday. Mr Fillipone was found dead Sunday morning.

October 5, 2002 NJSAR provided support for the Balance Bar 24 Hour Challenge and was responsible for the safety of 65 Teams and close to 50 Event Staff that were spread out on a difficult course stretching from Anthony Wayne Rec area to Ramapo Reservation. We were in the initial stages of beginning a search for one overdue team at PC-2 (Island Pond) and launched an active search for four teams at PC-6 (Shepard's lake). We also Evacuated to a hospital with the assistance of New York Search and Rescue one injured racer from PC-6 suffering from a severe muscle pull.

August 8, 2002 NJSAR on standby to a mutual aid request from National Emergency Response and Rescue via the New York Federation of Search and Rescue for a search in Montauk, NY. The search was scaled down and NJSAR was not dispatched.

July 13, 2002 NJSAR on standby to a mutual aid request from the New York Federation of Search and Rescue for a search in Oswego County, NY. NJSAR was not dispatched.

May 23, 2002 NJSAR responded to a mutual aid request from the New York Federation of Search and Rescue for a search in Grafton, NY for Christopher Bastian, an 18 year old man missing since Saturday. Mr. Bastian's body was found early Thursday afternoon.

January 7, 2002 NJSAR responded to a mutual aid request from North Jersey Search and Rescue for a missing 30 yr old who went out on a snowmobile 6pm Sunday in Mansfield Township, NJ. The snowmobiler was found injured by North Jersey SAR and NJSAR was cancelled in route.

January 3-4, 2002 NJSAR assisted the Old Bridge Police Department and South Old Bridge Volunteer Fire Company on a search for George Sharo, a missing 79 year old Alzheimer patient missing since December 29, 2001. NJSAR provided search management staff, ground and dog search teams, and coordinated efforts with Central Jersey Technical Rescue Team and Ramapo Rescue Dog Association. Mr. Sharo's body was found Sunday, Jan 6, 2002.
