NJSAR 2001 Searches

November 11, 2001 NJSAR put on standby at 2:00 PM by Park Rangers at Minnewaska State Park in New Paltz, NY for a missing, diabetic hunter missing since around 12:15 PM. The hunter was found on good condition around 3:45 PM.

October 21, 2001 NJSAR assisted West Milford Search and Rescue in a search for 5 hikers out all night in Abram S. Hewitt State Forest. Responded with a dog team and placed ground searches on standby.

NJSAR was dispatched along with other member teams of the Search and Rescue Council of NJ by New Jersey Office of Emergency Management to assist NYPD with coordination of dog searches of the debris removed from the WTC site in an effort to find all human remains. NJSAR had people on site for 3 days both in overhead capacity and doing canine searches until relieved by various Sheriff's Offices from across NY State.

July 25, 2001 Provided consultation to the Park Ridge, NJ Police Department concerning a missing resident.

Assisted the Ramsey Police in the search for Michael Bayles, missing since June 13, 2001. The search is ongoing. Michael was featured on America's Most Wanted.
Update: Michael Bayles' body was found Oct. 18, 2001 near the search area. (Bergen Record article)

May 18, 2001 Assisted in a Mahwah Office of Emergency Management search for 6 Girl Scouts and 2 leaders who had been missing from Boy Scout Camp Yaw-Paw since late afternoon. A NJSAR team found the group around 5:15 AM on the Cannonball Trail near Skyline Drive. (Bergen Record article)
